Jesus Christ is unique. He has always been God,
and when He came to the earth, He became man. He was 100% God, and
100% man--two natures combined in one person. This doctrine is
called the Hypostatic Union.
-
The Humanity of Jesus Christ.
-
Jesus had a human mother. (Matt. 1:18)
-
Jesus grew in wisdom and stature just as any
other human child. (Lk.2:40; 2;52)
-
Jesus had the appearance of a man. (John 20:15)
-
Jesus was subject to physical desires and
weaknesses.
-
He hungered. (Matt. 4:2)
-
He thirsted. (John 19:28)
-
He became tired. (Matt. 8:24)
-
He sorrowed. (John 11:35)
-
He became angry. (Matt. 21:12-13)
-
The Deity of Jesus Christ
-
Jesus is called God. (John 1:1)
-
Jesus is called the Lord. (Acts 4:33)
-
Jesus is called the Son of God. (Mark 1:1)
-
Jesus possesses the attributes of God
-
Jesus is eternal. He was "in the beginning."
(John 1:1; 8:58)
-
Jesus had authority over death. (John 5:21)
-
Jesus is immutable. (Heb. 13:8)
-
The very nature of God is resident in Jesus.
(Col. 2:9) Because of this, the Lord was incapable of sinning (the
doctrine of Christ's impeccability). His perfect holiness prevented
Him from succumbing to temptation.
-
Jesus is omnipotent. (Matt. 28:18)
-
Jesus is omniscient. (John 16:30)
-
Jesus Christ was born of a virgin.
-
Jesus was conceived by the Holy Ghost. (Luke
1:35)
-
The virgin birth made possible Jesus' sinless
nature. (Romans 5)
-
The Substitutionary Death of the Lord Jesus
Christ
-
Jesus died to satisfy God's wrath. (Rom.
3:25)
-
We are reconciled to God through the death of
Christ. (Rom. 5:10)
-
Jesus died in our place to pay for our
sins. (Isa. 53:6; I Pet. 2:24)
-
Jesus' death was for the sins of the entire
world. (I John 2:2)
-
The Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ
-
Jesus' resurrection is the cornerstone of our
faith. (I Cor. 15:17)
-
Jesus' resurrection demonstrated His deity.
(Rom. 1:4) Also compare John 2:19 with Rom. 6:4. In the first
reference, Jesus said, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I
will raise it up." In the second reference we find that Jesus was
raised from the dead "by the glory of the Father ."
-
Jesus' resurrection proved that His sacrifice
was accepted by the Father. (Rom. 4:25)
-
Jesus' resurrection was a bodily, physical
resurrection. (Matt. 28:6; John 20:1, 2)
-
Jesus' resurrection assures believers that we
will be accepted by God. (Rom. 4:25)
-
After His resurrection, Jesus ascended into
Heaven, and will someday return to claim His Bride (the Church), and
to establish His kingdom here on Earth. (Acts 1:9-11; Heb. 9:21-24;
Rev. 20) Today, the Lord Jesus acts as our Advocate before the
Father (1 John 2:1) .
